A History

I have never been particularly athletic, although I was a fairly average weight through high school. Adulthood did not treat me kindly, and I find myself overweight and out of shape. I have had minor successes here and there with different diets or exercise programs, but it was never anything I was able to stick with.

So I find myself facing another birthday, unhappy with the way I look and feel. I'm single, pushing 30, and living a sedentary lifestyle. I need to change.

Step one was signing up for GymPact. GymPact is an app that you commit to a certain number of workouts per week, and if you meet the number of workouts, you get paid real live money. If you DON'T hit your goal, you are CHARGED money. For me, money talks. I now exercise four times a week to avoid the fee.

Step two was signing up for a fitness challenge at Gold's Gym. I will be going for my beginning measurements and pictures on the 24th, and I will have 12 weeks to lose weight and get toned for the after pictures and measurements. I'm in the running for several cash prizes if I have good results. Once again, money talks.

Step three is changing my eating habits. Right now I am purging my house of my guilty pleasures, snacks I always overeat no matter how hard I try, and just bad choices in general. The calorie tracking begins on my weigh in day. Rules of thumb are going to be no dairy, limited gluten, no processed foods, 1200-1300 calories a day.

Step four is this blog. A public proclamation of my goals and intentions, where I plan to track my progress, admit my mistakes, and post a little motivation. Hold me accountable! Ask me how I'm doing! Send me healthy recipes!

In the two-ish weeks leading up to the challenge, I'm not making any drastic changes. I'm easing into it, building up a little stamina, and weaning myself off of junk food. My hope is not to be skinny, but to be an athlete. Right before the end of the challenge, I am signed up for my second mud run. I am hoping to blow last years time out of the water and complete ALL the challenges.

Wish me luck!
